Meet Shadow

and Macie.

Shadow and Macie know they’re pretty special at home with the love and companionship (and entertainment) that they freely give.  What they may not know is that the reach of their love extends far beyond the backyard fence.

Their person writes:

These carts are now in the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.  Basically, when a baby is born very premature, parents are not allowed to hold their infant.  Sometimes for weeks.  Sometimes never, because the infant dies.  Sometimes, like us, only at the very end.  During our three days with our son, we felt powerless, so we read to him instead.

But the NICU had no children’s books, so this is our memorial to Roe, our son.  So that other parents can feel like they are doing something to help.

When they NICU asked for book carts, we decided to have them customized, but don’t know what Roe would have liked or wanted.  But he had two dogs.

So the collars say “Roe’s Books” but the tags identify Shadow and Macie.   They also both wear your tags in real life.

This is so very touching. What a wonderful idea and the tags really bring it to life. Thank you for all that you have done for the parents and babies.

Wow – This was really touching…I started to tear up. What you done was a very amazing thing… to some people it may seem not like that much – but it really is.. it means a lot for those mothers in that hospital with those babies. I too lost a baby….carried my baby for 5 months and gave birth to a stillborn baby — which is so heartbreaking and such a miserable feeling.. when you can’t even hold your baby. It was such a horrible thing to go ..one that no one should have to go through. I am very sorry to hear about Roe, but think it’s amazing what you’ve done :) *Many hugs from me & my Rummy (My 7 year old Pit mix)
